2117061 9304725 PCTABS00020 This invention pertains to a sealing element for an endotracheal tube, which element provides a fluid seal between the outer wall of the tube and the lumen into which the tube is inserted. One of the drawbacks of using conventional seal elements, inflatable cuffs, is injury to the tracheal. This drawback is resolved by providing a sealing element (50) comprising a collar portion (51) and a pliable flange (53). One or more of these elements (50) are positioned on the endotracheal tube (55). When the tube (55) is inserted into a lumen the pliable flange (53) forms a seal between the outer wall of the tube (55) and the inner wall of the lumen.
