A coin operated dispensing apparatus is described which includes a plurality of compartments. A plurality of solenoid locking mechanisms lock a door on each compartment. Upon power being supplied to the solenoid, the door is unlocked. A coin operated solenoid activation mechanism is provided which includes a battery power source and a rotary switch. A stepper motor is used to alter the position of the rotary switch to provide power to the solenoid of one of the compartments. A timer terminates power from the battery to the solenoid when sufficient time has passed for the door to be opened.
