A combination filter and evaporator unit (10) for use in small engine applications includes a filter member (12) that is screw threadedly engaged to the evaporator unit (14) to facilitate replaceement of filter media (18) as needed. The design of the unit (10) constrains incoming oil (90) to flow first through the filter media (18) and then to an evaporation chamber (44). A central hub (76) and a bottom wall (26) of the evaporation chamber (44) arc directly heated by a heating element (78) and the evaporation chamber (44) is closed by an imperforate lid (36) so that heat loss is inhibited.
