A system for surgically removing a cataract (20) from an eye (10) includes a cryomanipulator (50) having a body (52) and a head (66) with a cryogenic tip (72) for freeze-gripping and manipulating material in an eye. The cryomanipulator may include a surgical tip (70), a heating device (74) and an irrigation/suction sleeve (54). The system further includes a cataract removing device (CRD) (204) for breaking up the cataract while it is frozen by the cryomanipulator. The CRD includes a drilling unit (230) having a rotatable drill blade (246) for breaking up the caractact and a housing having irrigation irrigation and aspiration conduits (256). A method of using the system includes the freeze-gripping and breaking up of the cataract followed by irrigation and aspiration of the fluid and the cataract fragments with the CRD and/or the cryomanipulator.
Cette invention se rapporte à un système d'extraction chirurgicale de la cataracte (20) d'un oeil (10). Ledit système comporte un cryomanipulateur (50) doté d'un corps (52) et d'une tête (66) à extrémité cryogénique (72) conçue pour saisir à très basse température et manipuler la matière l'oeil. Ledit cryomanipulateur peut également comporter une pointe chirurgicale (70), un dispositif chauffant (74) et un manchon d'irrigation et d'aspiration (54). Ledit système comporte aussi un dispositif d'extraction de la cataracte (CRD) (204) conçu pour briser la cataracte gelée par le cryomanipulateur. Ledit dispositif d'extraction de la cataracte incorpore une unité de perçage (230) dotée d'une lame rotative (246) conçue pour briser la cataracte et un boîtier comportant des conduits (256) d'irrigation et d'aspiration. L'invention se rapporte également à un procédé d'extraction de la cataracte qui consiste à utiliser ledit cryomanipulateur pour saisir à très basse température la cataracte et à la briser, puis à irriguer les fragments de cataracte et à aspirer le fluide d'irrigation ainsi que les fragments de la cataracte au moyen du dispositif d'extraction et/ou du cryomanipulateur.
