The invention facilitates transport of an immobilized, anesthetized small animal across multiple single-modality or multiple-modality imaging workstations at the same or different physical locations without loss of subject positional information. The animal holder is compatible with preclinical animal imaging stations such as micro-CT, micro-MR, micro-PET, micro--SPECT, and FMT. The animal holder is configured to be accommodated by (for example, fit within) individual imaging chambers of such instruments and is fabricated from materials that are compliant with all of the imaging modalities used. In certain embodi-ments, an integrated set of fiducial marker wells accommodates the dispensing of markers that are picked up by several modalities simultaneously in multiple planes. The fiducial markers then are aligned in standard image processing or image analysis software with simple image translation and rotation operations, without the need for more advanced scaling, distortion or other operations. The animal holder optionally also includes a system for providing the animal with inhalation anesthesia, for example, isoflurane, and is designed to fit into identical receptacles inside or outside the imaging workstation(s) that provide heating to minimize or prevent animal hypothermia.
La présente invention facilite le transport dun petit animal immobilisé et anesthésié entre plusieurs stations de travail dimagerie à mode dapplication unique ou entre des stations de travail dimagerie à plusieurs modes dapplication se trouvant à des endroits physiques identiques ou différents sans perte dinformation de position de lanimal. Le porte-animal est compatible avec les stations dimagerie animale préclinique telles que le micro-scanner, la micro-IRM, la micro-TEP, la micro-SPECT, et la FMT (tomographie par fluorescence). Le porte-animal est conçu pour sadapter aux caissons dimagerie individuels de tels instruments (par exemple, pour loger à lintérieur) et est fabriqué à partir de matériaux qui sont compatibles avec tous les modes dapplication dimagerie utilisés. Dans certains modes de réalisation, un ensemble intégré de repères dimage reçoit la distribution de repères qui sont relevés par plusieurs modes dapplication simultanément dans plusieurs plans. Les repères dimage sont alors alignés dans un logiciel de traitement dimage ou danalyse dimage standard avec des opérations simples de translation et de rotation dimages, sans nécessiter de changement déchelle avancé, de distorsion ou autres opérations. Le porte-animal comprend également facultativement un système permettant danesthésier lanimal par inhalation, par exemple, avec de lisoflurane, et est conçu pour loger dans des réceptacles identiques à lintérieur ou à lextérieur de la ou des stations de travail dimagerie qui apportent du chauffage pour réduire au minimum ou pour empêcher une hypothermie de lanimal.
