In a method in a cellular telecommunications system for performing a subscriber (28) handoff (216) from a first multiple access communications system to a second multiple access communications system, a subscriber unit in communication with said first multiple access communications system measures (206) a signal characteristic of a signal from the second multiple access communications system to produce a signal characteristic value. In response to the signet characteristic value, the subscriber unit is configured to communicate with the second multiple access communications system. Thereafter a subscriber handoff (216) is performed from the first multiple access communications system to the second multiple access communications system. The signal characteristic value may be signal strength. The signal characteristic may be measured with the receiver (92) for the first multiple access communications system.
Cette invention se rapporte à un procédé utilisé dans un système de télécommunication cellulaire afin d'effectuer une opération de transfert (216) d'abonné (28) entre un premier système de communication à accès multiple et un second système de communication à accès multiple. A cet effet, une unité d'abonné en communication avec le premier système de communication à accès multiple mesure (206) un signal caractéristique d'un signal provenant du second système de communication à accès multiple, pour produire une valeur caractéristique de ce signal. En réponse à cette valeur caractéristique du signal, l'unité d'abonné est configurée pour communiquer avec le second système de communication à accès multiple. Ensuite, une opération de transfert (216) d'abonné est réalisée du premier système de communication à accès multiple au second système de communication à accès multiple. La valeur caractéristique du signal peut être constituée par l'intensité du signal. La valeur caractéristique du signal peut être mesurée à l'aide du récepteur (92) du premier système de communication à accès multiple.
