A technique for enhancing the signal-to-noise performance of a digital communication link without affecting its power flux density. An information data stream has its full data rate selectively reduced prior to transmission, to enhance signal-to-noise performance. Then the reduced data rate information signal is combined with a pseudorandom data sequence at the full data rate, to provide a randomized data sequence to be transmitted at the full data rate, thereby maintaining power flux density levels below those permitted by regulation.

L'invention concerne une technique qui permet d'améliorer le rapport signal/bruit d'une liaison de communication numérique sans affecter sa densité de flux de puissance. Pour améliorer le rapport signal/bruit, le débit complet d'un flux de données de renseignement est sélectivement réduit avant d'être transmis. Le signal de renseignement à débit réduit est ensuite combiné à une séquence de données pseudo-aléatoire au débit complet afin d'obtenir une séquence de données aléatoire destinée à être transmise au débit complet, ce qui permet de conserver la densité de flux de puissance sous les niveaux autorisés par la réglementation.
