THE PRODUCTION OF THIN, PHOSPHORESCENT NYLON YARN ABSTRACT A man-made phosphorescent yarn comprised of multifilaments with a diameter of less than approximately 20 microns, per filament, and a method of manufacturing the yarn. The yarn filament is made up of a body portion consisting of a polymeric material which is at least partially translucent and a sufficient quantity of phosphorescent particles in the body portion. The particles have a maximum particle size of 10 microns which is less than one half of the diameter of the yarn filaments and the particles have a mean size greater than 5 microns. The yarn is manufactured by mixing appropriately sized phosphorescent particles with a suitable polymer and extruding the resultant mixture to form yarn, and utilized for textiles.
