A manipulable hand for use in laparoscopic surgery having a controlled hand, remote from the operator, and having at least one controlled finger. The controlled finger has at least one hinge corresponding to an interphalangeal joint of a human finger and is adapted for insertion through a cannula to an internal surgical site. The controlled hand is connected by motion transmission rods or cables to a controller which moves the controlled hand in accordance with sensed movement of the surgeon's hand and allows a surgeon to remotely perform a laparoscopic surgical procedure.
