Improved oxidation methods are provided wherein a reaction mixture comprising a substrate to be oxidized (e.g., phenols, alkenes) and an oxidation catalyst (typically dispersed in an organic solvent system) is supplemented with a compressed gas which expands the reaction mixture, thus accelerating the oxidation reaction. In preferred practice pressurized subcritical or supercritical carbon dioxide is used as the expanding gas, which is introduced into the reaction mixture together with an oxidizing agent. The inventive methods improve the substrate conversion and product selectivity by increasing the solubility of the oxidizing agent in the reaction mixture.

L'invention concerne des techniques d'oxydation améliorées dans lesquelles on ajoute à un mélange réactionnel comprenant un substrat à oxyder (p.ex. phénols, alcènes) et à un catalyseur d'oxydation, généralement dispersé dans un système de solvant organique, un gaz comprimé qui dilate le mélange réactionnel et accélère ainsi la réaction d'oxydation. Dans un mode de réalisation préféré, on utilise du dioxyde de carbone sous-critique ou supercritique comme gaz expansif, introduit dans le mélange réactionnel en même temps qu'un agent oxydant. Les techniques de l'invention permettent d'améliorer la transformation du substrat et la sélectivité du produit au moyen de l'augmentation de la solubilité de l'agent oxydant dans le mélange réactionnel.
