Disclosed is an azametallocene polymerization catalyst having general formula (I), where L is a lignad, or mixture of ligands, each having 4 to 30 carbon atoms and containing at least two fused rings, one of which is pyrrolyl ring, Cp is a ligand containing a cyclopentadienyl group, B is a Lewis acid, Y is a halogen, alkoxy from C1 to C20, siloxy from C1 to C20, or mixtures thereof, M is titanium, zirconium, or mixtures thereof, m is 1 to 4, and n is 0 to 2, p is 0 to 2, q is 0 to 1, and m + n + q = 4. The catalyst is useful in polymerizing unsaturated olefinic monomers such as ethylene.

On décrit un catalyseur de polymérisation du type azamétallocène ayant la formule générale (I). Dans cette formule, L est un ligand ou un mélange de ligands ayant chacun entre 4 et 30 atomes de carbone et contenant au moins deux cycles fusionnés, dont un est un cycle pyrrolyle, Cp est un ligand contenant un cycle cyclopentadiényle, B est un acide de Lewis, Y est un halogène, un C1-C20 alcoxy, un C1-C20 siloxy ou leurs mélanges, M est le titane, le zirconium ou leurs mélanges, m est compris entre 1 et 4, n est compris entre 0 et 2, p est compris entre 0 et 2, q est égal à 0 ou 1 et m + n + q = 4. Le catalyseur est utile pour la polymérisation de monomères oléfiniques insaturés tels que l'éthylène.
