The invention relates to a method for cooling extruded hollow profiles which are used in the fabrication of windows in particular wherein the hollow profile is forced through an extrusion die to be cooled down and calibrated in extrusion tools, the method implying the following steps: - introduction of a finely atomized liquid cooling agent through a nozzle into a profile chamber that is open to the downstream side of the profile; - complete evaporation of the cooling agent on the walls of the profile chamber; - sucking off the evaporated cooling agent out of the profile chamber. Accelerated cooling is achieved, at high quality, in having the cooling agent sucked out of the profile chamber in the direction of the extrusion, downstream the nozzle.
