A one piece, rectangular shaped, non ferrous sheet metal device, bent upward to form a perpendicular step tread, positioned and permanently fastened to a raised structure's pitched roof deck.. This device is a readily available foot or hand hold to safely support a person when they access; move on and about; or exit a roof's surface from a ladder, scaffold or bucket lift. When more than one of these step devices are installed and strategically spaced horizontally, vertically or diagonally about the roof's surface they form a secure, permanent ladder type system which can be used for routine maintenance tasks or emergency situations. The long tongue above the step tread has a minimum of five, widely spaced, "X" pattern holes about its surface for insertion of the stainless steel screws that permanently fasten the device to the roof's deck. This same tongue is. installed between two courses of roofing material in "shake" type fashion whether it be cedar shakes, interlocking duroid, asphalt, vinyl, fiberglass shingles, ferrous or non-ferrous metal sheeting.
