A digital broadcasting receiver and a method for processing a stream of a digital broadcasting receiver are provided. The receiver includes a demodulator for receiving and demodulating a transport stream comprising known data, a supplementary data stream, and information regarding the known data, a known data detector for detecting the known data from the transport stream using the information regarding the known data, and an equalizer for equalizing the demodulated transport stream using the known data. The transport stream is transmitted from a digital broadcasting transmitter comprising a Trellis encoder for performing Trellis encoding using internal memories and resetting internal memories at a predetermined point of time according to a control signal to control a Trellis reset process. The supplementary data stream is processed to be robust against errors by the digital broadcasting transmitter.
