2064578 9102277 PCTABS00003 An optical scanner has a light distributor (26) rotating about an axis (32) spaced from but parallel to the optical axis of a light source (106). Lenses (94) are mounted on a carrier that rotates about the optical axis. The distributor and carrier rotate at the same angular velocity and are arranged so that the lens (94) and associated distributor (26) move across the media at the same time. By rotating the lens about the optical axis, the scanning beam remains in the central zone of the lens as it passes across the media.
