A prediction-type medical thermometer (11) comprises a base housing (13) and an elongated probe (15) connected together by a flexible wire (16). The probe (15) includes an elongated base (21) and a special hollow probe tip (23) having a low heat capacity and which contains a thermistor (19) and a resistive heater (31) that is actuated only upon removal of the probe (15) from the base housing (13). The heater (31) regulates the temperature of the probe (15) to a value of about 93 °F. After the probe (15) is applied to the patient, a microprocessor repeatedly samples the thermistor (19) and estimates the patient's temperature based on the successive samples. For example, if a predetermined number of successive temperature estimates lie within a predetermined error range, the sampling is terminated and the most recent temperature estimate is displayed as the patient's temperature.
Un thermomètre médical (11), du type à prédiction, comprend un boîtier de base (13) ainsi qu'une sonde allongée (15) reliés par un fil souple (16). La sonde (15) comprend une base allongée (21) et une pointe (23) creuse particulière présentant une faible capacité calorifique et contenant une thermistance (19) ainsi qu'une résistance chauffante (31) qui n'est activée qu'au moment de l'extraction de la sonde (15) du boîtier de base (13). Cette résistance (31) permet de maintenir la température de la sonde (15) à une valeur d'environ 93 DEG F. Après que la sonde (15) a été appliquée à un patient, un microprocesseur échantillonne de manière répétée la thermistance (19) et estime la température du patient en fonction des échantillonnages successifs. Ainsi, si un nombre prédéterminé d'estimations de température successives se situe dans une plage d'erreur prédéterminée, l'échantillonnage est interrompu et l'estimation de température la plus récente est affichée comme correspondant à la température du patient.
