- 7 - ABSTRACT A chaff spreader is mounted on the rear of a combine by a single beam projecting rearwardly from the rear axle of the combine. At the outer end of the beam is an hydraulic motor with its output shaft vertical. Mounted on the shaft is a spreader head including a flexible apron and a set of flexible flails that rotate below the chaff discharge. The beam supporting the chaff spreader is hinged so that the outer section of the beam and the spreader head itself may be swung to one side, providing access to the rear of the combine for cleaning purposes. When the outer section is swung to the side, a hitch plate on the inner section is exposed and can be used for towing a trailer, for example a header trailer.
