This human-machine interface has a touch screen (1) with a selection of travel destinations at, for example, a university which can be individually selected by touching the screen. The travel destinations are not represented as real locational parameters such as a floor number, for example, but by means of designations. The user selects, for example, the conference room as his travel destination without knowing where the conference room is actually located. A control determines the real locational parameter by means of a table in which, for example, the real locational parameter "Floor 23" is assigned to the designation "Conference Room". The control assigns the desired floor to the elevator car with the best travel conditions and informs the user on the touch screen (1). The information contains the designation of the means of transportation and an indication of the place of boarding.
