This invention relates to a device which may be used for indicating a correct seal between a mask (60) and face, checking the flow of gas through the mask (60), indicating respiration activity and/or measuring the rate of respiration. A breathing mask (60) is provided with a housing communicating with the interior of the mask and extending outwardly therefrom, an opening in the housing remote from the mask (60) and a member (41) in the housing movable in response to gas flow through the housing. In an embodiment, an attachment for a breathing mask (60) comprises a housing having spaced openings therein, means for attaching the housing to a breathing mask (60) so that one of said openings communicates with the interior of the mask (60) and a member (41) in the housing movable in response to gas flow through the housing.
