The method and apparatus for compensating a photo-detector allows both regulation and monitoring of the photo-detector to be performed with a common digital controller. The controller accepts input of monitored operational parameters including received signal strength and temperature. The controller provides as an output a bias control signal which regulates a positive the positive or negative side bias voltage power supply for the photo-detector. The controller maintains the bias voltage to the photo-detector at levels which optimize the gain and signal-to-noise ratios for the photo-detector thereby facilitating the decoding of the received signal over a broad range of signal strengths and temperatures. The controller includes a corresponding digital signal strength and temperature compensators the outputs of which summed with a summer to provide the bias control signal. The digital signal strength compensator also provides as an output a monitor signal a level of which corresponds to the actual signal strength received by the photo-detector after compensation for the variable gain of the photo-detector resulting from the bias voltage level. A transceiver as well as methods and means for monitoring a photo-detector are also disclosed.
La présente invention a trait à un procédé et un appareil de compensation d'un photodétecteur permettant à la fois le réglage et le contrôle du photodétecteur à être effectués à l'aide d'un contrôleur numérique commun. Le contrôleur reçoit une donnée d'entrée de paramètres de fonctionnement contrôlés comprenant l'intensité et la température du signal reçu. Le contrôleur fournit en sortie un signal de commande de polarisation qui réalise le réglage d'une alimentation en tension de polarisation positive ou négative pour le photodétecteur. Le contrôleur maintient la tension de polarisation destinée au photodétecteur à des niveaux qui optimisent le gain et les rapports signal/bruit pour le photodétecteur facilitant ainsi le décodage du signal reçu sur une large plage d'intensités et de températures d'un signal. Le contrôleur comprend des compensateurs d'intensité et de température de signal numérique dont les données en sortie sont additionnées au moyen d'un sommateur pour fournir le signal de commande de polarisation. Le compensateur d'intensité de signal numérique fournit également en tant que donnée de sortie un signal de contrôle dont un niveau correspond à l'intensité réelle du signal reçu par le photodétecteur après compensation pour le gain variable du photodétecteur obtenu par le niveau de la tension de polarisation. L'invention a trait également à des procédés et des moyens pour le contrôle d'un photodétecteur.
