A geographically distributed apparatus and process for detritiating heavy water is provided. The apparatus and process provide a remote site enrichment plant for producing an enriched stream of DT/D2 gas and a hydriding unit for forming a hydride of the DT/D2 gas for transportation. Pure tritium gas is produced at a local tritium extraction plant by reforming DT/D2 in a de-hydriding unit and passing the gas mixture through a chain of cryogenic distillation columns. The invention provides a safe and cost-effective method of detritiating heavy water.

La présente invention concerne une installation et un processus d'épuration de l'eau lourde de son tritium. L'installation et le processus comportent, sur un site à distance, d'une part une usine d'enrichissement produisant un courant enrichi de DT/D¿2? gazeux, et d'autre part une unité de production d'hydrure de DT/D¿2? gazeux destiné au transport. Le tritium gazeux pur est produit par une usine locale d'extraction du tritium, d'abord par réformage du DT/D¿2? dans une unité de déshydratation, puis par passage du mélange gazeux dans une suite de colonnes de distillation cryogénique. La présente invention propose ainsi un procédé sûr et économique d'épuration de l'eau lourde de son tritium.
