Aromatic carboxylic acids are produced by reacting a Lewis acid: C02 complex with aromatic hydrocarbons. The complex can be created by incubating a Strong Lewis acid and CO2 and forming a composition consisting essentially of C02, strong Lewis acid, and Lewis acid: C02 complex. Carboxylation of aromatic hydrocarbons to produce aromatic carboxylic acids using the composition and method in accordance with this invention provides improved yields without the use of finely divided aluminum or zinc.
L'invention concerne des acides carboxyliques aromatiques produits par la réaction d'un complexe d'acide de Lewis/CO¿2? et d'hydrocarbures aromatiques. Ce complexe peut être créé par l'incubation d'un acide de Lewis fort et de CO¿2?, et par la formation d'une composition essentiellement constituée de CO¿2?, d'acide de Lewis fort et du complexe d'acide de Lewis/CO¿2?. La carboxylation d'hydrocarbures aromatiques pour produire des acides carboxyliques aromatiques au moyen de la composition et de la méthode de l'invention, permet d'augmenter les rendements sans qu'il soit nécessaire d'avoir recours à l'utilisation d'aluminium ou de zinc finement divisé.
