The invention concerns a tool for forming by punching an orifice (2) with a conical mouth (3) in a strip (4) of metallic material notably for the design of a face piece (5) of a lock fitting or the like. This tool is distinguished in that it comprises: - a punch (9) including a cylindrical part (11) constituting the extension of a conical part (14); - and a female mould (10) having a bore hole (15) with a section matching that of the cylindrical part (11) of the punch (9), the said bore hole (15) having in its wall at least one groove (18, 18A), opening on the upper face (19) of the said female mould (10) in way of the strip material (4) to be formed, the material exiting via the said groove or grooves (18, 18A) when the conical mouth (3) is punched. The invention concerns also a face piece notably of a lock fitting formed using the said tool.
