The present invention relates to methods for the treatment of viral influenza using statins, or pharmaceutically effective salts, pro-drugs or metabolites thereof. In particular it is disclosed that statin hydroxyl acid salts including, but not limited to, mevastatin, lovastatin, pravastatin and simvastatin, are effective in conferring resistance to infection with influenza type A viral challenge.

La présente invention concerne un procédé de traitement de la grippe virale à l'aide de statines ou de leurs sels, de leurs pro-médicaments ou de leurs métabolites pharmaceutiquement efficaces. En particulier, selon l'invention, des sels de l'acide hydroxylé de statine y compris, mais sans limitation, la mévastatine, la lovastatine, la pravastatine et la simvastatin, sont capables de conférer efficacement une résistance à une infection avec provocation par un virus grippal de type A.
