Apparatus for supporting a computer pointing device such as a mechanical or optical mouse or a track ball unit within the footprint of a keyboard. The apparatus supports the pointing device over the keys of a computer keyboard to permit full use of both the pointing device and the keys. The apparatus comprises a platform positionable over at least a portion of the keyboard to support the pointing device and regions formed in the platform to permit manipulation of the keyboard keys through the platform. The regions can be openings through the platform to allow a user's fingers to press the keys directly. The regions can be deformable to permit a user to manipulate the keys underneath the platform indirectly. Alternatively, the keyboard itself can be designed with keys having specially shaped surfaces to support a pointing device.
L'invention concerne un appareil permettant de supporter un dispositif de pointage d'ordinateur, tel qu'une souris mécanique ou optique ou une unité de boule de commande, dans l'encombrement d'un clavier. L'appareil supporte le dispositif de pointage sur les touches du clavier d'un ordinateur, de manière à permettre d'utiliser aussi bien le dispositif de pointage que les touches. L'appareil comprend une plate-forme pouvant être positionnée sur au moins une partie du clavier afin de supporter le dispositif de pointage et des régions formées dans la plate-forme afin de permettre de manipuler les touches du clavier par l'intermédiaire de la plate-forme. Les régions peuvent se présenter sous la forme d'ouvertures dans la plate-forme permettant aux doigts d'un utilisateur de presser directement les touches. Les régions peuvent être déformées de manière à permettre à l'utilisateur de manipuler les touches indirectement au-dessous de la plate-forme. Dans un autre mode de réalisation, le clavier peut être conçu de manière à présenter des touches dont les surfaces présentent des formes spéciales afin de supporter un dispositif de pointage.
