A machine assembly that receives like printed copies, one by one, or shingled, and/or nested, in one or two streams, to reforming said copies into a single-file stream of copies such that they may then be shingled into a single stream for further in-line finishing operations such as trimming and stacking. To reform two streams of copies into one stream, the copies of one stream must have a controlled and reasonably steady copy symmetry within itself and in relation to the other stream. The first operation of the machine assembly of this present invention is to create sufficient space between the copies of each stream such that the copies of the second stream may be deposited sequentially, on or between, the books of the first stream to create a single-file stream of copies with its own internal copy symmetry. This first operation applies whether the incoming streams are shingled or not and/or nested. The second operation is to open said copies into a single-file stream with a constant gap between said copies to monitor using the gap in real-time between copies in reference to a prescheduled norm and to use this data to set the relative surface speeds of the various sections of the machine assembly of these present inventions. The third operation of this machine assembly, its Flyless Shingling section, is to transition each copy of the single-file stream of copies (signatures or books) downward in a controlled fashion to reform same into a single shingled stream, the preferred copy configuration of the printing industry for the subsequent printing operations such as copy trimming, stacking or print-roll collection.
