A Surface Traveling Wave Vehicle has propulsion and support provided by a flexible sinuous skin. This invention is a new embodiment which does not relate to existing technologies. In a propulsion and support unit for a vehicle, it is known that a means of movement over a non level terrain, and the capability to support the driving mechanism and a load must be provided. The 'per-cycle' surface length of the sinuous flexible skin, being longer than its projection onto the traveled surface, results in a net longitudinal motion as the flexing occurs. This global transporter, in lengths from meters to hundreds of meters, is made feasible by use of this principle and the application of modern day materials technology.
Un véhicule de surface à mouvement ondulatoire ayant une propulsion et un support fournis par une jupe ondulée flexible. Cette invention est un nouveau concept qui n'a aucun rapport avec les techniques existantes. Il est notoire qu'une unité de propulsion et de support de véhicule doit disposer d'un moyen de déplacement sur un relief accidenté et avoir la capacité de supporter le mécanisme d'entraînement et la charge. La longueur de surface «unitaire» de la jupe ondulée flexible étant plus longue que sa projection sur la surface parcourue, il en résulte un déplacement longitudinal net pendant la flexion. Ce transporteur universel, dont la longueur peut aller de plusieurs mètres à plusieurs centaines de mètres, est rendu possible par l'utilisation de ce principe et par le recours aux techniques des matériaux modernes.
