Mastitis in a milking animal is detected through sensing the capacitance effects in milk. Using frequencies of greater than 60 mega-hertz applied by a capacitance probe to milk as it streams through other-wise conventional milking equipment during milking, yields a reliably dis-cernable shift in the phase angle, in-dicating the presence of mastitis.
