ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE In order to be able to weld on studs with a larger than normal diameter, a stud-welding process is proposed in which the pressure applied to the stud before the welding current is triggered is applied symmetrically to the stud axis, but extra-axially and adjustable as appropriate, thus ensuring better centering during the welding operation and also improving the quality of the weld. A suitable pressure- application device is proposed for this purpose.
