A system and method for the optimized storage and retrieval of video data at distributed sites call for the deployment of "Smart Minor" sites (26, 28, 30) throughout a network (10), each of which maintains a copy of certain data managed by the system. Every user (12, 16, 20) is assigned to a specific delivery site based on an analysis of network performance with respect to each of the available delivery sites. Generalized network performance data is collected and stored to facilitate the selection of additional delivery sites and to ensure the preservation of improved performance in comparison to traditional networks.

Cette invention se rapporte à un système et à un procédé d'optimisation du stockage et de l'extraction de données vidéo en des sites répartis, qui fait appel à un déploiement de sites de type "Miroir intelligent" (26, 28, 30) au sein d'un réseau (10), chacun de ces sites conservant une copie de certaines données traitées par le système. On affecte à chaque utilisateur (12, 16, 20) un site récepteur spécifique en fonction d'une analyse des performances du réseau relative à chacun des sites récepteurs disponibles. On rassemble et on stocke les données relatives aux performances généralisées du réseau de manière à faciliter la sélection de sites récepteurs supplémentaires et de manière à assurer le maintien de performances améliorées en comparaison de celles des réseaux classiques.
