An apparatus and method for tuning voice playback ratio (pbr) to optimize call quality in a packet voice communications system, while taking into account network conditions. The pbr is the ratio of resampling rate to the original sampling rate. The invention also optimizes jitter buffer length (jb0) for call quality. Between bursts of speech, the preferred embodiment of the invention optimizes call quality by varying the initial jb0 and the pbr to achieve the best R-factor (R). R is an estimate of customer satisfaction with the quality of a voice call in real time. During bursts of speech, the value of jb0 is fixed at the beginning of the BOS and the pbr is varied to achieve the best R. The method can be implemented during a burst of speech and between bursts of speech whenever the network conditions change.
La présente invention concerne un dispositif et un procédé pour accorder le taux de retransmission vocale (pbr) afin d'optimiser la qualité d'appel dans un système de communication vocale par paquets, tout en prenant en compte les conditions réseau. Le pbr correspond au rapport vitesse de ré-échantillonnage / vitesse d'échantillonnage initiale. L'invention permet également d'optimiser la longueur de tampon de gigue (jb¿0?) pour la qualité d'appel. Entre des salves vocales, les modes de réalisation préférés de l'invention permettent d'optimiser la qualité d'appel en faisant varier la jb¿0?¿ ?initiale et le pbr pour obtenir le meilleur facteur R (<I>R</I>). <I>R</I> est une estimation de la satisfaction du client en ce qui concerne la qualité d'un appel vocal en temps réel. Au cours des salves vocales, la valeur de jb¿0?¿?est fixée au début du BOS et le pbrvarie pour obtenir le meilleur <I>R</I>. Le procédé peut être mis en oeuvre au cours d'une salve vocale et entre des salves vocales à chaque fois que les conditions réseau changent.
