A post anchoring method for anchoring posts used in fence, deck, balcony and railing applications to a surface wherein an anchor apparatus is provided comprising a base member for attaching to the surface and an elongate tubular member that is connected to the base member and having a terminal end remote from the base member with an edge capable of piercing into the post; and then the following steps are carried out in any order: (a) attaching the base member to the surface at a location where the post is to be located, and (b) longitudinally aligning the post with the tubular member, abutting an end of the post to the terminal end and forcing the tubular member into the post to substantially impale the post such that the surfaces of the tubular member frictionally engage the post to secure the tubular member to the post.
