The present invention pertains to a catalyst composition comprising at least one non-noble Group VIII metal component, at least two Group VIB metal components, and at least 1 wt.% of a combustible binder material selected from combustible binders and percursors thereof, the Group VIII and Group VIB metal components making up at least 50 wt.% of the catalyst composition, calculated as oxides. The invention also pertains to a process for preparing the catalyst, to its use in hydroprocessing and to its recycling. The catalyst according to the invention has a higher strength than corresponding binder- free catalysts, and are easier to recycle than catalysts containing a non- combustible binder.
