An apparatus and a method of inserting spinal implants is disclosed in which an intervertebral space is first distracted, a hollow sleeve (140) having teeth (l42) at one end is then driven into the vertebra adjacent the disc space. A drill (240) is then passed through the hollow sleeve (242) removing disc and bone in preparation for receiving the spinal implant (1) which is then inserted through the sleeve (140).

Avec l'appareil on agrandit tout d'abord l'espace intervertébral puis on introduit une gaine creuse dont une extrémité est pourvue de dents dans les vertèbres adjacentes à cet espace discal, on fait passer ensuite une fraise dans la gaine creuse pour enlever le disque et l'os afin de préparer la zone pour recevoir l'implant spinal qu'on insère ensuite à l'aide de la gaine.
