2079595 9115781 PCTABS00007 Acoustic, particularly ultrasonic, search device comprising an ultrasonic transducer (1) or the like, a display (3) and an electronic unit (4), wherein the ultrasonic transducer (1) or the like consists of several elements (2), which function as transmitters and/or receivers of acoustic signals, and which elements (2) are arranged to function, under the control of the electronic unit (4), so that a display image (7) of the viewed search area is obtained on the display (3) based on the echo signals reflected from the viewed search area. The search device additionally comprises an optical viewing device (6) by means of which the display image (7) is arranged to be seen. The display image which is reflected onto the retina of the eye by the viewing device (6) is preferably observed to have dimensions corresponding to reality. The device is suitable for use as an auxiliary device for a smoke diver, the display image generated in front of the eyes of the smoke diver enabling the smoke diver to proceed in a room filled with smoke.
