The disclosure relates to hockey sticks. More particularly, the present invention relates to the shaft of a hockey stick having a cross-sectional configuration in the shape of an oval with a single axis of symmetry. A hockey stick provided with such a shaft provides a more comfortable feel on the gripped portion of the handle and a sense of a more comfortable and precise control of a blade which may be fixed to the end of such a handle. A hockey stick provided with such a shaft also provides improved aerodynamics when compared with a hockey stick with a generally rectangular cross section. Another object of the invention, a hockey stick with a cross-sectional configuration in the shape of an oval with a single axis of symmetry, is to maximize the force storage capability of the shaft and increase the speed of the whip effect when a force applied to flex the shaft is released; this is achieved with a design that provides the structural properties of a double arch construction along the longitudinal axis of the shaft.
