A moving position detector is provided which is suitable for a mouse light in weight and thin in thickness. Rotations generated by virtue of frictional force generated between a bottom 4 of a rotating body 2 and a floor surface 18 are detected by a rotation detecting means 11 as the number of rations of a rotary encoder portion 3 and converted into an output signal corresponding to the signal from the encoder portion for output to an output means 12 for input into a computer, the rotating body 2 having a pressurizing point 17 for applying loads by gravity or a mechanism element to positions other than a center on the bottom in a direction normal to a moving direction of a mouse relative to a shaft 1.
