ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An improvement in a self-adjusting headlight having a housing pivotally mounted to a body of a vehicle to pivot about a horizontal axis, and balancing means to maintain a beam of light from the headlight in vertical alignment when the housing is pivoting freely. The improvement relates to the means for locking the housing and consists of providing an engagement surface on the housing. An engagement member is provided which is movable between an engaged position engaging the engagement surface whereby the housing is locked in the desired pivotal position and a disengaged position removed from the engagement surface whereby the housing pivots freely. Upon activation the engagement member moves between an engaged and disengaged position.
