This invention is a percutaneous filtration catheter used to entrap emboli from a patient's aorta, and heart during cardiac surgery. The catheter has an elongate member (1), a proximal end (3), and a distal end (2). A balloon occludent (5) is mounted on the distal end of the elongate member, and an expandable filter (10) is mounted on the elongate member distal the balloon occludent. Methods for using the devices is also disclosed herein.

L'invention concerne un cathéter percutané à filtration destiné à piéger les emboles venant de l'aorte et du coeur d'un patient lors d'une opération chirurgicale sur le coeur. Le cathéter possède un élément allongé (1), une extrémité proximale (3) et une extrémité distale (2). Un dispositif d'occlusion à ballonnet (5) est monté à l'extrémité distale de l'élément allongé, et un filtre extensible (10) est monté sur l'élément allongé à une certaine distance du dispositif d'occlusion à ballonnet. L'invention concerne aussi des procédés d'utilisation de ce dispositif.
