A nonaqueous secondary battery containing an anode sheet having a layer composed mainly of a lithium-containing metal oxide, a cathode sheet having a mixture layer composed mainly of a cathode material and a metallic material composed mainly of lithium and laid on the mixture layer, a nonaqueous electrolyte containing a lithium salt, and a separator. Lithium is inserted into the cathode sheet as a standby reserve by inserting the anode sheet, cathode sheet, and separator in a battery can in a wound state, and the sheets and separator are aged after the electrolyte is enclosed in the battery can. Therefore, the secondary battery has a high discharge capacity and an excellent charging-discharging cycle characteristic.
