The present invention provides a method, system, computer readable media and signals embodied in a carrier wave for managing the purchase of a sample of an item in an electronic auction. Effectively an indication is provided to the electronic auction to indicate that samples of goods in auction are available, when samples of the goods have been secured at a location. Then, a message is sent to an entity in control of goods at the location to indicate that goods are to be shipped to a potential bidder in the auction, when shipping arrangements for shipping from the location to the potential bidder have been established, and payment arrangements for receiving payment from the potential bidder have been established.
