ABSTRACT: An organophilic clay gellant having enhanced utility in alcohol compositions is prepared from the reaction product of a smectite-type clay having a cation exchange capacity of at least 0.75 milliequivalents per gram and from about 0.90 to less than about 1.20 milliequivalents per gram of clay of a castor fatty propylamido benzyl dialkyl, i.e., methyl or ethyl ammonium salt. -1-
