An improved method and apparatus is provided for continuously embossing a precision pattern of micro-prismatic elements on a surface of a resinous sheeting material (34) with the aid of an endless metal embossing belt (44). The method of the present invention seeks to solve the problems associated with previous methods which fail to produce micro- prismatic elements at sufficient rates. The present method includes the steps of moving the belt along a closed path through a heating station (46) and a cooling station (48), conveying superimposed resinous film (38) and sheeting material (34) into proximity with the belt, passing the film and sheeting between the belt and a series of sonic welding heads (70) to thereby begin to impress a pattern of micro- prismatic formations of the belt into one surface of the sheeting, pressing the film and sheeting against the heated belt until the one surface of the sheeting fully conforms to the embossing pattern, and stripping the film and embossed sheeting from the belt.
L'invention concerne un procédé et un appareil améliorés servant à imprimer par gaufrage en continu un motif de précision constitué d'éléments microprismatiques sur une surface d'une matière de feuille (34) résineuse à l'aide d'une courroie (44) à gaufrer métallique sans fin. Le procédé comporte les étapes consistant à mettre en mouvement la courroie sur un trajet fermé de façon à lui faire traverser un poste de chauffage (46) et un poste de refroidissement (48), transporter un film résineux (38) et une matière de feuille (34) superposés à proximité de la courroie, faire passer le film et la feuille entre la courroie et une série de têtes de soudage acoustique (70) pour commencer à imprimer un motif de formations microprismatiques de la courroie dans une surface de la feuille, presser le film et la feuille contre la courroie chauffée jusqu'à ce qu'une surface de la feuille coïncide entièrement avec le motif de gaufrage, et enlever le film et la feuille gaufrée de la courroie.
