ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A pallet for use in the shipment and storage of merchandise includes a platform panel for supporting material made from two parallel spaced-apart sheets and an interposed compression resistant core of lightweight material securing the sheets together. A number of leg members support the platform panel and are distributed in rows on the lower surface thereof to form passageways for the forks of a lift truck to be entered between the leg members. Elongate runners or a unitary bottom panel connect together the leg members at the bottom ends thereof. The preferred leg members are steel cylinders lined with high compressive strength cardboard cylinders. In an alternate embodiment, the core between the sheets of the upper panel comprises high compressive strength cardboard rings arranged side-by-side each other. In one preferred embodiment having metal sheets, the core comprises high compressive strength metal honeycomb material.
