The invention relates to a dimmable amalgam lamp having a quartz glass tube enclosing a discharge chamber comprising a filling gas, and closed by pinching at both ends thereof, through which at least one current feedthrough is fed through one helical electrode each in the discharge chamber, wherein at least one of the pinches comprises a hollow space comprising an opening to the discharge chamber for receiving a stock of amalgam that can be tempered by means of the helical electrode. In order to disclose a method for operating the amalgam lamp on said basis, ensuring a high efficiency of UV-C radiation even when dimmed, the invention proposes that the current feedthrough comprises an outgoing wire to the helical electrode and a return wire for an additional current 1 add, and that the additional current 1 add is adjusted as a function of the level of the actual lamp current 1_Ist.
L'invention concerne une lampe à amalgame à intensité lumineuse variable comprenant un tube de verre de quartz qui entoure un espace de décharge contenant un gaz de remplissage et qui est fermé à ses deux extrémités par des pincements au travers desquels passe au moins une traversée de courant en direction d'une électrode hélicoïdale respective dans l'espace de décharge. Au moins un des pincements présente un espace creux possédant une ouverture tournée vers l'espace de décharge, destiné à recevoir une réserve d'amalgame qui peut être tempérée par l'électrode hélicoïdale. L'invention vise à présenter, sur cette base, un procédé de fonctionnement de la lampe à amalgame qui assure un degré élevé d'efficacité du rayonnement UV-C, même en mode éclairage réduit. A cet effet, la traversée de courant dirigée vers l'électrode hélicoïdale comprend une ligne d'aller et une ligne de retour pour un courant supplémentaire I_add et que ledit courant supplémentaire I_add est réglé en fonction de la valeur du courant réel de la lampe I_ist.
