The use of low molecular weight amino alcohols in ophthalmic compositions is described. These compounds have been found to enhance the efficacy of anti-microbial preservatives. Particularly preferred amino alcohols are 2-amino-2-methyl-1-propanol (AMP), 2-dimethylamino-2-methyl-1-propanediol (DMAMP), 2-amino-2-ethyl-1,3- propanediol (AEPD), 2-amino-2-methyl-1,3-propanediol (AMPD), and 2-amino-1-butanol (AB). The ophthalmic compositions further optionally comprise a borate/polyol buffer system and an alkylamine.

Cette invention concerne l'utilisation d'amino-alcools de faible poids moléculaire dans des compositions ophtalmiques. Ces composés permettent d'accroître l'efficacité d'agents conservateurs anti-microbiens. Les amino-alcools préférés consistent en du 2-amino-2-méthyl-1-propanol (AMP), en du 2-diméthylamino-2-méthyl-1-propanediol (DMAMP), en du 2-amino-2-éthyl-1,3-propanediol (AEPD), en du 2-amino-2-méthyl-1,3-propanediol (AMPD) et, enfin, en du 2-amino-1-butanol (AB). Ces compositions ophtalmiques peuvent en outre comprendre un éventuel système tampon borate/polyol ainsi qu'un alkylamine.
