A floor cleaning machine for wet cleaning of a floor has a pair of brushes for acting on the floor, a first conduit system for feeding a treatment solution to the floor in the region of the brushes for carrying out a first cleaning step, a first suction unit, a second conduit system for feeding a second treatment solution to the floor behind the first suction unit, and a second suction unit. Two tanks are provided one for fresh cleaning solution and one for used cleaning solution. Both suction units are connected to the used cleaning solution tank and the first conduit system has conduits extending into both tanks so that cleaning solution for use in the first cleaning step can be selected from fresh cleaning solution and used cleaning solution.
