A method of simultaneously drilling and lining a bore in an earth formation comprises providing a tubular outer elongate member (24) and an inner elongate member (26) located within the outer member. At least one of the members is spoolable. A drill bit is mounted to one of the members and a bore is drilled by advancing the drill bit through the earth formation and advancing the members through the bore. The drill bit mays be expandable and retractable and used in combination with a tractor. The outer member may be expanded. A latch (38) may couple inner and outer member. Conventional or reverse circulation of fluid mixed with gas may be used through the three annuli, which may also be sealed with a packer and can be underbalanced. Optical fibre or cable embedded in the tubing may be used for communication.
