An apparatus and process for slaughtering fish wherein electro-narcosis is induced by exposing the fish to an alternating electrical field having a frequency of greater than 20 Hz for a predetermined duration wherein if the frequency is less than 200 Hz, the duration is less than 2 seconds and wherein the fish are subsequently killed whilst unconscious.

L'invention concerne un appareil et un procédé d'abattage du poisson. A cet effet, on induit une électro-narcose en exposant le poisson à un champ électrique alternatif caractérisé par une fréquence supérieure à 20 Hz pendant une durée prédéterminée, ladite durée étant inférieure à 2 secondes si la fréquence est inférieure à 200 Hz. Le poisson alors inconscient est ensuite tué.
