In accordance with the present invention, there is provided a stent for insertion into a vessel of a patient. The stent has a front and back open ends and a longitudinal axis extending therebetween. The stent has a plurality of adjacent hoops that are held in alignment with the longitudinal axis between the front and back open ends by a thin film tube. The hoops are attached to either the inner or outer surface of the thin film tube. The stent is compressed into a first smaller diameter for insertion into the vessel with a delivery tube and a second larger diameter for deployment into the vessel. The inventive stent can be retracted into the delivery tube if it is improperly deployed.

La présente invention concerne un stent destiné à être inséré dans un vaisseau d'un patient. Ledit stent possède des ouvertures antérieure et postérieure et un axe longitudinal s'étendant entre lesdites ouvertures. Ledit stent présente une pluralité de frettes adjacentes qui sont maintenues dans l'alignement de l'axe longitudinal entre les ouvertures antérieure et postérieure par un tube de pellicule mince. Lesdites frettes sont fixées sur la surface intérieure ou sur la surface extérieure du tube de pellicule mince. Ce stent est comprimé de manière à former un premier petit diamètre, ce qui permet son insertion dans le vaisseau avec un tube d'administration, et un second diamètre plus large, ce qui permet de le déployer dans ledit vaisseau.
